ELSU of Queen's University Belfast

ELSU provides English language training and support to International Students on behalf of the Queen's University Belfast in the form of both preparatory (pre degree) and in-sessional (during degree) courses. These are the only courses recognized for entry to QUB degree programmes.

In addition, ELSU is a University of Cambridge Language Examination Centre offering English language assessment including the internationally recognized IELTS test.

Courses and Services

The English Language Support Unit (ELSU) offers the following courses and support services:

Pre-sessional and Foundation English Courses at Queen's - These are full-time intensive English for Academic Purposes courses with entry points throughout the year. They are designed for students who need to improve their language skills in order to take up a course of academic study at Queen's University or at another UK University.

Summer General English and Intensive General English Courses - These are full-time General English courses with entry points throughout the year.

Foundation Year Programme for International Students Leading to Undergraduate Engineering and Computer Science Degrees - The one year Foundation Programme is designed to enable students who do not have the required qualifications (academic & English language) for level one entry to gain entrance to undergraduate engineering and computer science degree programmes at Queen’s University.

English language classes for students on degree programmes at Queen's - The English Language Support Unit provides free, optional English courses for students who may need English language support in order to follow their studies successfully. These include courses on Academic Writing, Speaking, Reading and Listening.

Tailored Programmes plus Social Programmes - These are full time short duration English courses designed to meet the language needs of specific groups of students. Social programmes include excursions and evening activities.
