Brooklands College
Overview
Brooklands College is situated in Weybridge, Surrey, a beautiful town 32 kilometres from the centre of London (25 minutes by train). The College offers a range of academic and vocational courses as well as courses specifically designed for the international market including full time Academic English Language and a University Foundation Programme franchised by Royal Holloway, University of London.
Brooklands has been welcoming international students for over 20 years and enjoys an international reputation for the excellence of its courses, the results the students achieve and the caring support the students receive. There are about 2,500 full-time UK students and overseas students from EU and non-EU countries.
Academic strengths
Our English Language programmes and welfare support systems are accredited by the British Council and EiBAS (English in Britain Accreditation Scheme).
Brooklands continues to celebrate the success of its international students. A-level results in particular have continued to improve year on year and for the last three years there has been 100% pass rate with many international students achieving top grades and continuing their studies at many of the top universities in the UK. Year on year our international students gain places to study at many of the top universities: Oxford University, London School of Economics, Imperial College London, University of Bath to name but a few.
Location
Brooklands College was established over 50 years ago and is located in a beautiful residential town called Weybridge, in the county of Surrey, 32 kilometres from the centre of London (25 minutes by train).
Accommodation
International students are guaranteed accommodation during their stay. The safety and comfort of our students is very important and all our accommodation is selected and regularly monitored by our Accommodation Officer. There is someone on call 24 hours a day for emergencies.
Students will be able to come to College on foot or by local public transport (bus or train) with a maximum journey time to College of 30 minutes.
In homestay family accommodation, students live as part of a family. They will have their own room and be provided with breakfast and an evening meal. Lunches, during the week, can be bought from the College canteen. The weekly rent is between £90-£120 per week.
In self-catering accommodation students will have their own room but will be responsible for looking after themselves, buying their own food, cooking, cleaning, etc. The rent will be approximately £70-£90 per week.
Facilities
There is a well-stocked Library and Learning Resource Centre which includes on-line access to numerous computers. The College has its own canteen and shop and internet cafe. The shop sells many useful items and the canteen serves hot meals, snacks, sandwiches and drinks throughout the day. There are also several vending machines serving drinks and snacks. There is also a College restaurant where students can have lunch or dinner at very reasonable prices.
There are also a number of opportunities for students to take part in sporting events whether as part of a team or as a way of making new friends and keeping fit. The newly built Sports Hall and fully equipped gym has enhanced the many sporting facilities available to students. There is a comprehensive Enrichment Programme which include Sport and Recreation and anything from photography to performing arts.
The Student Centre has a lounge area and a room with pool tables, video games and a jukebox. The Student Union organises events throughout the year and there are termly parties and outings.
Support for international students
The International Office was set up in 1995 and the staff, including an Accommodation Officer, are available to help and assist students throughout their stay at College. As well as accommodation, the International Office will help with opening a bank account, applying for a student visa, visa renewal and registering with the police for immigration purposes and helping with any other queries a student may have.
The College has professional Careers Advisors and a large modern and comprehensive Careers Centre. Students can get all the help they need to find the best university course, or information about a particular career path.
The College has a qualified nurse who can give advice on a full range of health-related issues. International students are advised to register with a local Doctor in order to be entitled to free health care. There are also qualified counsellors who can offer confidential advice for anyone who is anxious, confronting study problems or trying to cope with stress.
The Brooklands' Work Placement co-ordinator can assist students to find work placements if required and there are plenty of opportunities for international students to work part-time (up to 20 hours per week). A 'Job' Notice Board is updated regularly.
Courses and Fees
English Language Course Fees:
Academic English Language (11 September to 15 June 2007 ) = £4,500 English Plus + £800 = £5,300
Academic English Language (2 January to 15 June 2007) = £2,812 English Plus + £500 = £3,312
Academic English Language (2 January to 10 August 2007) = £3,940 English Plus + £600 = £4,540
Academic English Language (16 April to 10 August 2007) = £2,256 English Plus - add £300 = £2,556
IELTS (4 weeks) 25 hours per week (excluding exam fee) (16 July - 10 August 2007) = £800
Additional Expenses:
Living expenses e.g. accommodation, bus/train fares, etc = £4,000 - £6,000 (approx)
Accommodation Booking fee = £30
Accommodation Deposit = £100 (refundable at the end of the stay)
Accommodation - Homestay (Bed, Breakfast & Evening meal) = £90 - £110 per week
Accommodation - Self Catering = £65 - £80 per week
IELTS Examination Fee = £85 (approx)

Airport Collection Fees = Heathrow £45; Gatwick £60 (collection only)
Sugarcraft/The Gateway to Europe (Culinary Arts) - additional equipment expenses = £1,250
Insurance - Health and third party liability = £115 per year (optional)
Students are strongly advised to take out personal accident, health and property insurance before arriving in the UK.
Fee Payment & Refund Policy:
Deposit: Once a student has been accepted onto a course, a deposit of £500 must be paid before the College can process the application further. The deposit will be credited against the tuition fees.
If a visa is refused by the British Embassy and written documentation is provided to prove this, a £300 refund will be returned.
